Swimming with Humpback whales

Trip tips

  • Whale watching and swimming trips are available every day during the whale season (July to Oct), and must be booked in advance as we only have space for 8 people per trip.
  • Our trips are for a full day and depart from the wharf at 9am and return around 5pm. We also offer a complimentary hotel pick up/drop off service in the Nuku'alofa area (other areas by arrangement).
  • We provide lunch and refreshments, and all snorkelling gear including masks, fins, snorkel, wetsuits and buoyancy aids. Our qualified whale guides will also provide basic snorkelling training if required.
  • Our purpose built boats have been specifically designed (to NZ marine survey standards) for speed, safety and passenger comfort and also include a toilet for your convenience.
  • We can’t guarantee you will get to see and swim with the whales every day, we do however offer a 25% discount off a 2nd booking if there are no whale encounters on the first trip.
  • Group discounts and private tours are available - please advise group size at the time of booking or contact us to discuss your specific requirements.

Witness an Amazing 8000km Journey

Each year from June through to November, hundreds of humpback whales arrive in Tonga. The whales spend winter in the warm seas of Tonga, mating and bearing their young, before returning with their new born calves to their summer feeding grounds of Antarctica. Tonga is one of two places in the world where you can swim with the whales, an encounter you will remember forever!
